In the
2015-2016 school year, the Terry Fox Run organizing committee of London (TFRL) hosted their fifth annual
Terry Fox Poster Contest, open to all schools in the Thames Valley
District and London Catholic School Boards. Each year the number of
submissions continues to grow, to the extent that this year the number of age
categories was increased from 3 to 4. From groups of 4 finalists in
each of the 4 age categories, a panel of qualified judges chose winners
and runners-up in each group. In the category of Grades 1-3, the winner
was Kayley Bispo (Teacher Mrs. McLeod), from Jean Vanier Catholic
School. This group had a tie for runners-up: Luca Dicarlo (Teachers Mrs.
Kusack/Mrs. Dandy) and Bella Oulds (Teacher Mrs. McIntyre) both from St. Paul
Catholic School. In the category of Grades 4-5, the winner was Kaja
Kurobasa (Teacher Mrs. Neves), St. Paul Catholic School, with classmate
Emerson McAuley as the runner-up. In the Grade 6-7 group, the winner was
Dayanna Alarcon Recinos (Teacher Ms. Regan), St. Paul Catholic School,
and the runner-up was Nikole Galant (Teacher Mrs. Buckle), St. Francis
School. In the Grade 8 - 12 category, the winner was Sihyun Park
(Teacher Mrs. Caldwell), Oakridge Secondary School, with the
runner-up Abby Hymmen-Eves (Teacher Mr. Curcio), St. Paul Catholic
School. The students and their teachers are to be applauded for their
efforts in creating wonderful tributes to our Canadian hero, Terry Fox. The TFRL
committee is very grateful to our fine panel of judges, which consisted of:
Kim Woodbridge, Fresh FM; Joe Belanger, London Free Press; Amie Ronald-Morgan, Scene Magazine; Amanda
Conlon, Executive Director, London Regional Children's Museum; Lisa
Armstrong, School Program Coordinator, Terry Fox Foundation; and
Pasqualina Cardu, local actor and writer. The judges
unanimously commented on the difficulty of making their choices. The public now has a chance to view these
high quality posters.
Selections of the submitted posters are being displayed, beginning August 15, at the Children’s Museum,
Sherwood Forest Mall, One London Place, London Life, White Oaks Mall, and Covent
Garden Market. The posters will remain on display at most venues until
